‘Hickman House’

For a variety of reasons, mainly economic, a good number of former students of the Trust Schools

have relocated regionally (or even further afield) for employment.

Yet the desire for a St John’s Education for their children remains very strong.

Many families identify with the values-based education offered and, indeed, recognize and value the Christian Foundation of the schools.

With this in mind, it has become imperative to build a small, boutique-like, comfortable, and modern facility that would accommodate a limited number of students on a weekly basis only, and a number of young staff who would benefit from accommodation in return for the pastoral and academic mentoring of the boarding students.

Hickman House, named after the founders of the Preparatory School, is under construction and is set to open in January 2025 with around 14 students and 2 staff members, i.e., Mr. Matthew Garvin and wife, Amy (House-Parents), and Mr. Dave Makamba (House-Tutor).

A limited number of student residents does not make the College a boarding school; but it will offer an important option to families not based in Harare.

This small facility is intended to secure the College’s long-term sustainability, and attract good boys and good families to St John’s that would otherwise be lost to other institutions.
