Counselling at St John’s College
At St John’s, counselling forms a core part of the student welfare portfolio. We believe that by showing students empathy, we enable them to show empathy towards others.
The School Appointed Counsellor is available to all pupils in the school and performs a role of short-to-medium term talk therapy and counselling support, as well as providing professional referrals to external Psychologists or Psychiatrists as necessary.
In the event of an acute crisis, such as a trauma, bereavement, emotional or psychological distress, or following a personal or family tragedy, students are encouraged to seek assistance from our dedicated Counsellor.
The Counsellor is readily available to provide a range of support to pupils as they navigate the complexities of adolescent life.
The College employs a system whereby any member of the student body or faculty can report a crisis event if a student shows signs of distress, where they or another student are at risk, or in need of adult assistance, to ensure that every student receives the support they require.
The Counsellor plays a crucial role in the Lower 6th Servant Mentorship Programme in order to support mentors in developing their leadership skills, identifying trends within the school and to provide responses to allow all students to be the best that they can be.
All interactions between the Counsellor and the students are underpinned by the highest levels of confidentiality and discretion.
